On the evening of Sunday, October 6, I was heading home to Canada on I75 and suffered a front tire failure. After having roadside assistance get the spare on, the technician noticed that the other tire was on the verge of failing as well and that there was no way I'd be able to make it home the way things were. I decided to overnight in Grayling and planned to attempt to make my way to Traverse City the next morning, as I was informed that finding low profile tires in a timely fashion locally would be near on impossible. First thing the next morning I went to Upper Lakes on a hunch that they could help me. I was not disappointed. Right away I noticed that the premises, inside and out, were neat and orderly. It was apparent that the proprietors and employees alike took pride in the business. I then had the pleasure of meeting Eric, who immediately took matters in hand, searched for, and located replacement tires for my vehicle which could be delivered later that day. He encouraged me to take some time to "see the sights" in Grayling, while waiting for the new tires to arrive. I spent a very pleasant day in town which included a walk along the Au Sable River, a great breakfast at the Grayling Restaurant, a visit to the Artisan Village as well as Paddle Hard Brewing. As planned, Eric contacted me when my new tires arrived, I returned to Upper Lakes, and was back on the road home in less than one hour. I want to take this opportunity to thank Eric and the staff at Upper Lakes Tire for their help. I cannot recommend them enough. It's also important to mention the proprietors and staff of the other Grayling businesses I mentioned above, the Ramada Hotel, where I stayed, as well as the municipal folks who, with obvious pride in their community, maintain the park along the Au Sable River. Been coming here a few years for summer to snow tires conversion. Told them to look at wiper blades and 'if' needed replacement to do it. Forgot I had them change just last spring and he told me they look good...no need to replace. Having lived down State last 30 years pretty refreshing. I'd say most on this biz would have just replaced whether it was needed or not. Even though they don't do brakes, struts etc. will make recommendation to go elsewhere to have fixed. Good find.
